Rarest of the Accutrons
Talk about a rare Accutron. It’s about as rare as the platinum model. Before the Accutron was made available to the public, Bulova, I was told, produced about a dozen of this model that was never produced for the public for some of the higher ups at the company to wear and test. It was a gold filled spiral lug model. For the public, the spiral lug was always solid 14k, but these dozen watches were produced in gold filled cases for testing to save the company some money before the Accutron was even available for sale. The gentleman who sent me his watch for repair, Mr. Sena, was in charge of all marketing at Bulova at the time and at over 90 years old really wanted his cherished and super rare accutron to operate once again, allowing me to repair it for him. He told me his office was right next to Bill Bennett’s office. Mr. Sena told me another great story about how he wanted to buy Omar Bradley’s limo (Omar was President of Bulova at the time) from him but couldn’t fit it into his garage so had to pass. With this watch’s incredible history, I was happy to make its repair for him and he was quite happy to have it on his wrist again.
